This continues to be my new favorite series, and luckily, the story quality is on par with the other 2. This book carries on with Ana and Din's adventures, this time dealing with rival families in the cattle industry and a murder between them. The story expands beyond just the one murder and explores the brutality of the meat industry of both their world and ours and the horror it wreaks on the environment, the people who run it, and society itself.
I enjoyed the exploration of a little more of Din's past and wished we actually got more, especially after the murder was solved. It would have been great to see him interact more with his family after the fact and the confrontations that needed to be done. Instead, that was left hanging, hopefully to be explored in the near future.
The mystery itself was well done and I enjoyed it. I am a person who mostly goes with the flow of mysteries, rather than trying to solve them, and this one took me on a good ride. I especially loved how the murders expanded our knowledge of the empire's past and showed how governments always try to cover up their not-so-shiny past.
Overall, I love this series and this one doesn't disappoint. I will be waiting for the next one with bated breath.
