I love this book soso much (I am choosing peace and happiness and refusing to watch the film)

My mum gave it me to read when I was about 15 and I have loved it ever since, probably my first introduction to gothic lit Love a tragedy, love a toxic relationship </3

    Thoughts from 10%

Chapter 1: « He (Mr. Heathcliff) is a dark-skinned g**** in aspect, in dress and manners a gentleman »

Chapter 5: « ‘Take my colt, G****, then !’ said young Earnshaw »

I’m only about 10% in and not only is Heathcliff’s appearance made abundantly clear, we already see that it’s very relevant to the plot.

By erasing his ethnicity in the upcoming adaptation by casting a white man, it completely erases the possible racial motivation behind Earnshaw’s hatred. A missed opportunity for representation as well.
