This is my first R.F. Kuang and I'm going into it blindly. I've heard people talking about being traumatized by this author so I'm a bit scared??? I got it from the library and I really hope I like it because the Spanish edition is SO PRETTY. I want it to be in my shelf, but I only buy what I truly love so fingers crossed 🤞🏻

Whether you love to hate or hate to love 'em, these literary bad girls are anything but well-behaved. *Disclaimer: we do not literally support the illegal and oft cruel behavior of these protagonists (usually); we support the authors bold enough to write them (always).

Things are so much sweeter when they have an ending; things are so much more painful when they can be ripped away
My favorite read from Blake yet (I do realize this is one of her earlier publications, I'm just late to the party 😉). I was in love with the unique story telling elements. A non-linear timeline told through "play scenes", dreams, and even memories. The character banter throughout is top tier, I laughed out loud several times reading this (highly recommend the audiobook for all of these reasons - they really come to life with the narration).
And of course, it wouldn't be an OB without some insanely complex character dynamics. They really caught me off guard, I thought we were heading for one direction and we ended up somewhere totally different. However, I'm still pleasantly satisfied with the ending.
A story of love, life, and finding meaning in it all ❤️

I love Kuang’s work. She’s my favourite author rn and an auto-buy. I liked Katabasis but it’s not my top pick tbh. I really enjoyed the prose, the world building and the magic system. The way different parts like logic, philosophy, mythology and so much more were intertwined into the concept of hell was fantastic. 🙌
My biggest issue was the characters, which feels so weird to say because normally I’m obsessed with her characters. :D Even though I did enjoy Alice as an MC, Peter fell kinda flat for me. I just didn’t care as much about their relationship. It’s definitely a biased review and I wonder how my rating would change if Katabasis had been my first book. 👀

I thought OB's debut to horror wasn't coming until the end of the month 🤪 The 1 star enjoyment is for Bryn and the 0.5 star characters is for the 50% of the time I could stand Sasha.
Realistically: It was fine, solid writing. I don't think it was her best work by any means and I don't like Romeo and Juliet 🤷♀️

I was wandering, what was the highest number of books you read in a year? And why? In which year did u hit that amazing number?
I read so many books this year, the last years it was so dry, no reading or like up to mabe 4 books because of my studies at university. But during my school time - high school or Gymnasium in germany- I read so many books. I read during classes when the teacher sucked or I allready knew the stuff we had to study and so I read up to 80 books a year because I read so much during class.
I think the most books in a year where around 85 books, I never hit that number again the years after. I mean I set goals but in the end I am just happy if i managed to read anything.
So just wandering, what was your highest number and, was it a good or a bad reading year?
