an ongoing sapphic masterlist of books (1600+)
in progress
Basically, a huge list of every book I ever heard features sapphic characters.
I have not read all of these, so I cannot be sure of the amount of the time on page of the sapphic characters or of the quality of the books.
Some of these I do not plan to read at all, since they are not my style. If you feel like a book doesn't belong here, let me know.
For my favs / read, check out my other lists & shelves.
Open to suggestions for more titles.
Don't shoot the messenger.

itโs complicated: mother-child relationships
Fiction & nonfiction books that explore the complexities and traumas of mother-child relationships or in which such relationships play a central role. While many books on this list are what Iโd classify as including โmommy issuesโ there are others that are more about the different perspectives and nuances of the mother-child (often specifically mother-daughter) relationship. Some books center the child, some the mother, some both.
Suggestions are welcome.

nothing here is entirely true
novels where reality bends and distorts, both narrators and memories deceive, and the truth becomes slippery. these stories blur the line between what is real and what is imagined, between fact and fiction, until we are unable to distinguish truth from the authorโs own fabrication. a blend of autofiction, historical fiction, and โnon-fiction fiction.โ
as always welcome to suggestions !

actual sapphic books from all genres
Books with sapphic characters at their center!
This list includes books where the character's queerness is clear, not merely suggested. The sapphic characters have to be central to the story.
The genres go beyond romance, expanding to historical fiction, fantasy, poetry, graphic novels, horror, non-fiction & more.
The selection is still growing ๐

Queer Literary Fiction
Focused on stories with beautiful prose, depth, and explore the intricate realities of the LGBTQ+ experience. Sub-genres could range from historical, contemporary, science fiction, magical realism, and classics (even romance!).
I will continue to update this, so comment if you have more!

Literally fruity queers๐๐๐๐๐
A list collating queer fiction with heavy fruit symbolism. The thematic usage of fruit in queer fiction is traced back to Florida Fruit Citrus Commission spokeswoman Anita Bryant, who fought hard to repeal gay rights and spread homophobic disinformation. Queer literature in the years after reclaimed the orange as a symbol of queer love and joy, and this has since expanded to other fruits. Disclaimer: I've read a few books on this list and am hoping to get through all of them!

make sure to eat your fruits and vegetables!
do you remember The Wiggles song โFruit Saladโ? or maybe โI Like to Eat Apples and Bananasโ? what about any song from Veggietales like โThe Pirates Who Donโt Do Anythingโ?
this list is freshly harvested and full of books with (specifically) fruits and veggies in the title or on the cover ๐ถ๏ธ๐ฅญ๐๐๐ซ๐ฅ๐๐๐ฅ๐ซ๐๐ฅ
some are more appropriate than others ๐
as always, please feel free to suggest any books I missed!

autofiction: hyperreflection as an art form
Introspective books by people who observe a lot, ponder a lot, feel a lot, and write about it. Creative memoir, self-indulgent navel-gazing, or "wan little husks" (as Joyce Carol Oates once put it)... whatever you personally think about autofiction, including whether or not it really is a genre, this somewhat experimental form of writing most definitely gives both writers and readers a chance to engage in narratives in a different way.
