Heimsuchung by Jenny Erpenbeck has been translated into English btw. The English translation is called Visitation and got translated by Susan Bernofsky.

The first two that come to mind are Half His Age by Jennette McCurdy and Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit by Jeanette Winterson. Their first names are a coincidence haha

Oh I love a good roman à clef! “She Gets the Girl” by Rachel Lippincott and Alyson Derrick is inspired by their love story.

What about The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien? I havent read any books on this list, but I think it fits based on ur description! Also cool idea!!
