coined by the singaporean sci-fi writer, researcher, and queer activist Ng Yi-Sheng, spicepunk is, "a recent-ish wave of speculative fiction and fantastical arts, countering Western(ised) hegemonic modernity with alternative visions anchored in Southeast Asian heritage and history."
