🐝And You Get a Bee!🐝

Did you know that male bees explode after mating? And they also explode if they get too hot. You're welcome.

These books are about bees in some way, with cameos from their ancestor, the wasp.

(TW: for insects)

Another fun fact: majority of the "bees" you see in save the bee campaigns are actually flies! Bees have two pairs of wings, whereas flies have modified the second pair into these tiny numbs. These halteres help with orientation and balance as they fly.

I found two youtube videos for anyone who's interested!

Microworlds: Bugs - Blending In or Standing Out This one is a little over 3 minutes and gives a general intro to the 3 types of mimicry found in bugs. Mimicry - When Animals Copy Other Animals This video is a 53 minute lecture on mimicry throughout the animal kingdom with a list of resources in the description.

If you'd like a suggestion, The History of Bees by Maja Lunde is a fiction book about bees and how climate change impacts them and then how we as humans have to adapt because they’re gone. And my flatmate has a poetry collection about bees, I'll ask her about it once I'm back home. It could be that that one is purely in German though.

I love this suggestion! đŸ©· Thank you! I'll put it here now!

Very curious about bee poetry now!

Omg this is awesome! You should check out The Honeys by Ryan La Sala, the bees are very powerful in that one 🐝🐝

Should be noted that only male bees explode after mating :) (male bees are actually the most pathetic)

They really are. They literally have one purpose. At lease they do it well!
