we have always tried to predict the future. these books were written about a future that is now our past - their predictions vary in terms of accuracy.
as always, open to suggestions!

oh i love this idea! i’ve always found it quite moving that 1984 was written in 1948, when Orwell had little idea of how much the world would change in some aspects, and how little in others. really makes you think about the “futuristic” stories being written now that are set in the 22nd century, and how predictions of the future reflect so much of what we value and fear.
I genuinely think we’re getting closer to Wall-E, although the trend was already there at the time the movie came out. It will be interesting to see which other media reflect the future society
yes!! we’re getting very close to some Black Mirror scenarios too 💀
love this! not sure if you’d count this but the gilda stories takes place over hundreds of years, and the last two parts take place in the future (as the novel was written in 1991). the last part has not happened yet (set in 2050), but the second-last part takes place in 2020 and is really fascinating!
