I love this idea for a list! I unfortunately don't have any book recs for you, but do have a film list I made a while back I'd like to share in case you're interested: Hawai'i. I did my best to focus on Hawaiian people and culture as well, instead of outside perspectives, so thought it may be a good companion for the readings. c:

this is great, thanks for sharing!! have you seen chief of war that came out last year? it had amazing insight in the history and i heard the kamehameha schools were involved in writing some of the ʻōlelo in the scripts (but that could be just neighborhood rumors lol)!

I haven't! I've watched very little for the past 6 months or so just cause I've been reading so much, but it looks really interesting. It seems like so much love and work went into making it as authentic as possible, and I love the bit I read about Jason Momoa finding the man who'd play King Kamehameha. 🔗
