A list of memoirs (or similar style of book e.g. epistolary diaries) by trans and non-binary authors.
This includes gender fluid, agender, two-spirit, and any other gender identities outside of the binary labels.

Maybe This Will Save Me by Tommy Dorfman, Semi-Well-Adjusted Despite Literally Everything by Alyson Stoner, Sorry I Keep Crying During Sex by Jesse James Rose, She's Not There by Jennifer Finney Boylan, A Queer and Pleasant Danger by Kate Bornstein, Gender Outlaw by Kate Bornstein, In the Form of a Question by Amy Schneider, It Gets Better...Except When It Gets Worse by Nicole Maines, Beyond the Gender Binary by Alok-Vaid Menon, Continuum by Chella Man, Being Jazz by Jazz Jennings (so sorry for the long list, I really like trans memoirs bahaha)
Also added these đ
yayyy :D ty! My favorite were A Queer and Pleasant Danger (the author tells all about her experience getting sucked into the church of scientology and it's a WILD ride, it was soooo fascinating) and She's Not There (the author was already an acclaimed novelist when she came out as trans, and she tells about what it was like coming out in the public eye before the trans witchhunts began), also really interesting! And both of them have extremely soothing voices that feel like warm hugs, so I recommend the audiobooks in particular đ thanks sm for assembling this list, i cant wait to check some of these out!!
oh, and another thing about A Queer and Pleasant Dangerâ in addition to serving as a memoir, it's basically also an open letter to her daughter, who's still in the Church of Scientology and has shunned Bornstein for decades due to her having been excommunicated. so, she writes openly to her daughter and I got very choked up about it at several points. cannot recommend highly enough đ
I have two recs: "We have always been here" by Samra Habib - they are enby and the book is amazing 𼰠Jonathan van Ness has also written a memoir, "Over The Top" - he uses he/him, but identifies as enby, too ⨠I was so happy to see enby representation on 'Queer Eye'!
Touching the Art by Mattilda Berstein Sycamore - I think a lot of her work touches this area but that's one of her more recent books
If poetry counts for this collection (and I understand if you feel that's outside the scope, to clear!) there's also Femme in Public by Alok and Togetherness by Wo Chan
Ooo that sounds great, I've added Touching the Art! đ
Hmm, I was gonna do a seperate trans non-fiction list (non-memoir, educational etc), so maybe I should make poetry a separate list đ¤ I shall have a think! Appreciate the suggestions and I shall add them to wherever I add poetry!
One I didnât get to put on a list of ones I found is Fairest by Meredith (?)
& Iâll come back cuz I probably have more.
OH yes that is one on my radar, thank you for the suggestion and reminder đĽ°
I really enjoyed none of the above by Travis alabanza
Ooo sounds good, added đĽ°
I really enjoyed Gender Failure by Ivan Coyote! And you could include Gender Queer by Maia Kobabe - it is a memoir (that I also enjoyed)!
