Horror from a Child’s POV: The Kids Are Not Okay

Horror is all the more horrifying when we experience it from the POV of children who don’t have as much agency in an adults world, and who don’t always understand why what is happening is happening, or even that it’s supposed to be bad…

Imaginary Friend would be a good fit for this! I don’t personally recommend it but it definitely fits the prompt 🙈

Ooooh thank you for the heads up I’ve added it! I’m guessing you didn’t personally enjoy it? 🤣

1

Definitely not haha. It has no business being as long as it is but any other critiques I have are spoilers

I must say when I saw the length my eyebrows raised 🤣

such a cool list!

Thank you! When I read incidents around the house last week, and I’m reading I’ll kill your imaginary friend for £200 now, and I realised that I really love the vibe these books give - they’re just so creepy in a way nothing else I’ve read has been, so I wanted to make a list to collect similar books!

I think Root Rot by Saskia Nislow would fit! I haven't read it but I'm very intrigued.

I shall check it out thank you very much! 👀

The lamb would def work for this; it’s written from the point of view of an 11 year old girl. I love this list!

2

Oooh good shout thank you! And I’m so glad you love the list 🥰

Hello! I have a few suggestions for this list 👀 The Institute by Stephen King and Such Small Hands by Andrés Barba would fit this, and if you consider it horror, the classic Lord of the Flies would work as well

ETA: Oh, and The Troop by Nick Cutter also follows a group of children for the most part, even though the very start is narrated from an adult's POV

Oh thank you!!!!! I can’t believe I forgot about Lord of the flies 🤣 I read that book in high school and hated it so much that I think I blacked it out hahhahaha but it’s a perfect fit for this list!

2

Hahah I read Lord of the Flies when I was way too young for it and I have no interest in reading it again 😂 But it is indeed a perfect fit for this list 💁
