In celebration of ✨more stats✨, I’m curious if there’s anything in the new details that had any of you like

For me, it was the Superlatives for March. According to Most Anticipated, I had apparently had Her Body and Other Parties by Carmen Maria Machado in my library for 1400 days, aka almost 4 years, which yea, sounds about right. Worst is, the stats are still inaccurate (no fault to PB, just too new for my failures), cause The Night Circus, which I read same month, had def been waiting longer šŸ’€

I don’t know any higher praise than that I added this book to my ā€œmy tasteā€ display before I even finished it. I’ve been raving about it all day to anyone who wanted to listen, and some who probably didn’t. I’ve convinced at least two people to pick this book up and read it, and I’ve actively bought it for a third.

To create a story is one thing. To create something that almost defies genres—being vaguely sci fi and horror and research report and also exploring the concept of ideas and memory, human resilience and ingenuity and LOVE—is something else entirely.

I don’t know. Maybe you’ll read this book and not feel any of what I felt, but I laughed and I cried and I despaired and I hoped. For a book which is, by its very nature, about inhuman things, this story is so very human.
