Getting into Short Fiction
When I started college, I quickly realised that I never read short stories. This list is reserved for the very best short story collections I've come across, both through my course and personal determination to change that! Short stories are a beautiful and satisfying form and amazing when you're stuck in a reading slump. They are also great inspo for writers like me to keep on their desk! idk if you’re into science fiction, but ray bradbury’s the martian chronicles is an exceptional collection tracking man’s history with mars! also, dubliners is such a good mention! short stories are so good at reflecting back what we are, and joyce really has a handle on it there.
Ooh, I'm not a huge sci-fi person but trying to read more! Will definately look into that one! Any other beginner's Sci-fi recs (novels either)? I really enjoyed The Midwitch Cukoos and I like comsic horror, if that helps!
that is a FANTASTIC question! there are some really iconic sci fi short stories - octavia butler's the ones who walk away from omelas comes to mind, and bradbury's all summer in a day or the sound of thunder. for novels, it's such a varied genre that i'm just gonna pop a few lists here! cozy sci fi, female-authored, bipoc, short kings, space operas, & some good old-fashioned horror. i hope you find a niche to settle into, and have so much fun exploring the stars!!

Ooo, love this list! Sometimes I find myself in need of a short story to get out of a reading slump. May I recommend The Six Deaths of the Saint by Alix E. Harrow? It's a fantasy short story, and I just want to say that it's really brilliant! I thought about it FOR DAYS afterwards.
