No taxation without representation!! Chocolate City and Dream City are most must-reads for anyone wanting a good look at Washington DC.
The Beautiful Things That Heaven Bears follows an Ethiopian immigrant Grand Avenues: The Story of Pierre Charles L'Enfant - I only ever associated L'Enfant with L'Enfant Plaza which is like an X-Files existence within DC (i'm joking, it's just a place where I stg you have no idea how you ended up there or how to get out and clearly no one else does either) before I realised it was the name of the French guy who designed DC I feel there must be a good book on Duke Ellington, but I haven't ever looked into it 🧐 There's a comic book called "District Comics" with tons of little stories about DC

Brilliant list! It’s kind of challenging to find DC books, in my experience
Chocolate City references Alley Life in Washington by James Borchert, which is now on my tbr. There’s also The Beat: Go-Go Music from Washington DC by Charles C Stephenson, about the only music indigenous to DC.
