The Calculating Stars by Mary Robinette Kowal, Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant, The Outside by Ada Hoffman, Middlegame by Seanan McGuire, Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer, and A Natural History of Dragons by Marie Brennan would work for this! Maybe Our Wives Under the Sea as well? (Side note: I am absolutely overjoyed to see Tigers already on this list! Ludo my beloved 💕🧽)
I can't believe I forgot about Annihilation, it's a friend's fave. Adding all of these. (Was this list an elaborate ploy to trick people into learning about the value of sea sponges??? Maybe!!!)
