Novellas??? I love you. We demand more appreciation for the shorter forms! (This is How You Lose the Time War is really good by the way)
More love and appreciation for the shorter forms!!!! (TIHYLTTW is one my favorites)
Fab list! Some suggestions;
The Iron Below Remembers by Sharang Biswas Tensorate series by Neon Yang (even better than Brighter, imo!) and Between the Firmaments Don't Sleep With the Dead by Nhi Vo The Cosmic Color by TT Madden Countess by Suzan Palumbo The Four Profound Weaves + Yoke of Stars by RB Lemberg Mimicking of Known Successes + sequels by Malka Ann Older Sing for the Coming of the Longest Night by Iona Datt Sharma and Katherine Fabian Sorcerer of the Wildeeps + Taste of Honey by Kai Ashante Wilson
Thank you for the recommendations! I added a few of them above. I think the Tensorate series is just a tad too long to be considered Novellas.
Thank you for putting this together!
Other stories that come to mind are Green Fuse Burning by Tiffany Morris, Pet and Bitter by Akwaeke Emezi, Fierce Femmes and Notorious Liars by Kai Cheng Thom, and Stone and Steel by Eboni J. Dunbar.
And if you feel like adding erotica to this list, I also highly recommend House Monstra Hotline by V. T. HoĂ ng!
Thank you for the suggestions! I do already have Stone and Steel on there but I did add the other novellas that were under 200 pages on there.
Whoops, I overlooked that! Pet and Bitter I think depends on the editions, mine are both less than 190 pages!
I wonder what editions you have? Online it shows that for Bitter the page count is 224 (digital) and 264 (paperback/hardcover), and the lowest page count for Pet I'm seeing is 203.
this list is just calling me to finally read Nghi Vo. also, if fantasy fits speculative fiction, The Fireborne Blade and The Bloodless Princes by Charlotte Bond should fit!
Nghi Vo is 1000% fantastic. I really love her work thus far. And I could be incorrect but it doesn't look like Charlotte Bond is BIPOC so she wouldn't necessarily fit in this list.
oh sorry, i completely missed that part! will be on the lookout for future recs đ«Ą
No worries, at all! I'm always open to recommendations đ„°
I have two more recommendations! Until the Last Petal Falls by Viano Oniomoh and The Sin of Angels by Enoli Lee
Please give recommendations if you have any!
A Wolf Steps in Blood by Tamara Jerée is really really good!!
