Fiction made by or about Asian settlers in Hawai'i and their connection to the indigenous and local community during U.S. America’s occupation. The experiences of Asian settlers in Hawai'i have contributed significantly to the current state of its local culture. Includes historical and modern-day settings; the rich history has shaped these Asian communities to what they are today. Suggestions very welcome! *More info in comments!

I initially wanted to highlight Asian authors who were born in or grew up in Hawai'i, but decided to expand on outsider authors who've written about the lives and history of Asian settlers because of the importance of their work that contributes to the genre.
Suggestions don't necessarily have to include Asian history of Hawai'i - I'd also like to highlight any fiction of Asians in Hawai'i or Asian authors writing about anything remotely related to Hawai'i (hence Yanagihara's work in here).
Ooooh, stoked to check out this list 🔥 Thanks for putting it together!

i’m excited to get to these books as well! i hope to expand on the list too, there’s so much potential in the fiction genre for asians in hawaiʻi!
