Everyone please feel free to make more suggestions and critics on the books on list, a lot of us start with "cobalt red" because recommendations but never is to late to see the problematics and look for best options... and many thanks for the likes 😊
i actually felt like King Leopold's Ghost fell into a similar vein of centering the perspective of a "white savior" who "discovered" the Congo so i'm interested to see people read that one
btw your review influenced me to look into some more leftist critiques of Cobalt Red and i found this one which was really interesting so sharing it here in case anyone else is interested, still parsing my feelings but in case anyone wants to research with me 🙂↕️🙂↕️

Saaameee when i see people speaking about it i think it have similar problems, but put on list just in case because it was on Friends of Congo list and wanted give a shot like i did with Cobalt Red... AND THAT REVIEW SLAYYY it would be sooo helpful have more similar critiques about other books

Wonderful list and I’m adding a lot of these to my shelves, but I do wish there were some books in French since a lot of this is anglophone perspectives on Francophone imperialism and violence. May I recommend “Holocauste au Congo: l’Omerta de la communauté internationale” by Charles Onana? I haven’t read it yet, but I’m researching books to prep for my thesis on Francophone neocolonialism and it seems solid. I also just got “Belgium and the Congo, 1885-1980” and “Battleground Africa: Cold War in the Congo, 1960-1965” added to Pagebound.
