  • What book/series got you into reading?

I always think back to the childhood books that got made me into the reader I am today so I wanna know what books everyone on here got them into reading! It also doesn’t have to be childhood books if you became a big reader later in life but I would still love to know what your answer was! One of the first books that I remember really loving and becoming obsessed with is the first Percy Jackson book that my mom recommended to me when I was about 7-9. So I owe my reader journey to her. I also really love the Pixie Hollow series so I’m super excited to read Wings of Starlight soon. (I’m also using this post as an opportunity to get some reading recommendations 🤭)

I overall admire VE Schwab’s work. Her prose is easy, flows well and you can get through a book rather fast. Invisible Life of Addie la Rue made me fail to care too much for it though. It’s not a bad book, I actually quite enjoyed it, but there’s a certain feeling that you have read this kind of story before, just the details are maybe changed. Addie as a character was fine, but I couldn’t bring myself to care about Henry. Funny enough, the ending I enjoyed. Not the best and not the worst, it can’t always be a perfect book.

I wanted to love Babel so bad, that I kept forcing myself to finish it. In reality, it failed to make me care about the characters, the plot or the magic system (or lack of it). There is a lot of critique that the book tries to lecture readers rather than narrate about themes like anti-colonialism and racism, which I didn’t mind in the beginning, but towards the middle of the book the tone, narrative style and questionable “academic” cadence failed to keep me interested in the plot itself. Characters felt flat and walking stereotypes. I felt nothing by the end. I am sure there’s many people out there that will love the book, but it just wasn’t for me. Arguably, I believe it was marketised poorly, to a wrong audience (or was it?)

Properly ghotics vibes, very atmospheric, with a sprikle of horror; very different from what I am reading these days, but enjoying it so far

oh Bunny, what do we have on our hands Bunny? - definitely one of the weirdest, mind bending reads I have had in a while; a bit gore, so thread carefully

    Pre-read thoughts 💭

Feel like I've been out of the Throne of Glass universe for a while even though it's only been a few weeks since I've read The Assassin's Blade. I'm excited to get back to see what Celaena will do once she learns more about herself and her past on a new continent, and I look forward to seeing more of the magic system in this world since it only was barely touched on in Crown of Midnight.

I've seen so many people dislike Chaol but I kinda think he's not that bad yet... is he the Tamlin of TOG? 😥

Curious to hear from others. How do you rate books? I’ve seen a lot of people that say a 3 star is a good book for them and they only give higher stars for books that are almost perfect. For me, I give out 4-5 stars a lot I think but it’s because it’s about how hard it was to put the book down. Whether I thought about the book when I wasn’t reading it and if I was attached to the characters. 5 stars to me doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the most amazingly written book, just that I had a really good time reading it. I was curious to hear how others rate! I think it’s all valid, I’d just love to know how others do it too.
