I'm currently reading 'Death of the Author' by Nnedi Okorafor, which is amazing so far. One of the things I love about the book is that you get the main story, but also chapters from the book the FMC is writing. I think you have to be insanely talented to make this concept work, because you basically have to write two books.
I have read one other book where this happens, 'Eliza and her Monsters' by Francesca Zappia, which was also amazing. So that made me wonder, are there more out there?
So if you know about books where you also get to read the book the MC is writing, please let me know! If I get enough responses I'll make a list out of it.
Update: Wow, this post got a lot more replies than I expected. RIP to my TBR. I have made the list and you can find it here.
Annie2000 created a list
Two stories for the price of one!
I asked Pagebound for books with a book inside the book. The following list is made up out of those recommendations. In some of them the MC is writing or reading a book that you also get to read, in others it is short stories or oral histories. In all of them, you get more then just one story. I have not read all of these books. I am open to more recommendations.
NB The Book of Counted Sorrows by Dean Koontz is often referenced is his other works and only later was actually written.

This was a really interesting book that I learned a lot from. Mainly, don't go to Antarctica, at least not for a full year. I loved the writing style, because it made non-fiction feel like a story. It was not at all dry.

I adore it when someone writes a book about something incredibly specific just because they're passionate about it.
Thought I'd ask and see what's the (in your opinion) book you own/have read with the most niche subject matter? I say non-fiction but I suppose fiction works too, I just would be less sure how to define it
I have a degree in a pretty obscure subject (not specifying to avoid doxxing myself lol) but I don't think anything I read for that comes close to 'The Construction of Race in Les MisĂŠrables Fanworks' by Dr Nemo Martin XD . Hopefully I'll be able to think of some others I know of...
I feel every book, no matter how obscure, has it's audience Does anyone have any niche non-fiction they like?
