AquaPhantasia commented on gracie's review of Beartown (Beartown, #1)
Beartown is unflinchingly, and at times unbearably, human. Backman's character work is unlike any other and he manages to portray the complexity of humans and communities without turning away from how horrific they can be. Reading this book left me feeling like a raw nerve as both the characters and the plot are perfectly, devastatingly realistic.
It feels a little strange giving this 5 stars because it hurt so much to read, but Backman's writing is always incredible and he absolutely nailed every aspect of how people react to sexual assault from the hive mind to the language choices.
For those who enjoy fast paced, high intensity plots, that is not Backman's style, so you may not enjoy this. But for those who enjoy great character work that takes its time to establish everything necessary, this is for you.
TW: sexual assault is critical to the plot and not every character deals with it well.

This thursday, the 23rd of April, is the day of the book and the rose in Catalonia, Spain. I wanted to make this post on thursday but something in me wanted to give some time in case anyone wanted to celebrate alongside me and my country!
On this day, Barcelona and the rest of Catalonia is painted with roses and books all over. You can search for images of Sant Jordi day and you will find stops on the streets, colour everywhere, and lots of love in the air.
The tradicion says lovers give a book and a rose to each other (typically a man gives a rose and a woman gives a book but... I think you understand why we take that part more freely) because of the legend of Sant Jordi.
It's about a dragon taking a princess hostage and a knight coming to rescue her. In the process he kills the dragon, and from the spilled blood a rose blooms, which he gifts to her. There are many versions and retellings, but this is roughly what you can find in all of them.
This is my favourite day of the year, I love everyone buying books and roses and taking a stroll to spend this gorgeous festivity. Did you know about it? Is there any similar festivity in your culture? Will you gift a book and a rose this Thursday, too? Let me know, and happy Sant Jordi everyone!!! ❤️🌹🐉📚

So this might be a bit controversial to ask, but I still wanted to know what others thought
So I currently am working on a novel and a comic project seperately. I'll publish them online at first and I hope to release physical versions of them too in the future
However a fearTM popped up about this. And that is if it's ok for me to continue using pagebound after all that
I know that most reader spaces don't like authors mingling with them, and I know that's mostly because of how certain authors respond badly to negative reviews (which I promise to handle them in a mature way)
But I do worry if it's like a general consensus for authors to not participate in reading spaces whatsoever, even if they were part of them in the past
I know some readers are also writers (like the book guy on yt) but I am not sure how expected that is in this site
Do be honest with your thoughts about this

this does track tho, with certain lingering prejudices i've only heard of, such that my mom's dad legally changed their family name to an extremely anglicized version of its original Polish

Romantasy for the Queers!
Romantasy and romantic/erotic fantasy reads starring queer characters! (Recs are welcome, but I'd like to encourage uplifting queer authors first and foremost! For series, I'll just put book 1 unless they can be read as standalones!)

From the top of my 🗻 hill, with my last dying breath, I shout “Floppy little paperbacks are a superior to hardbound editions in every way!”
And “Keep your filthy movie/tv adaptation covers off my books! The OG cover is ALWAYS better than whatever capitalistic Hollywood veneer they slap on the front!”
👉🏻 All right, tag, your it!
Silly, serious, unhinged. Let’s hear them all! 📢

Idk what to feel about anthromorphizing AI (making something inanimate have human-like features). I still like reading it though so we'll see.
