Within the first minute of the audiobook I am hit with the harshest pronunciation of Toronto it almost blew me backwards 😭
[For context, say "trono", or better yet "chrono" (with the same "ch" sound as "chair")]

This was my first book by T. Kingfisher/Ursula Vernon and I have to say, I'm quite hooked. It seems, from the afterword, that it was her first book that wasn't strictly for children, which makes me even more pleasantly surprised that its meant to be for young adults, maybe even middle grade, because it didnt read, to me, like a book aimed at a younger audience except for the fact that the protagonist was a teenager. I highlighted quite a few funny passages in my e-book, and I hope this humor and narrative voice carries over into the other books by her I have lined up - insomuch as it can considering her other books seem to trend more toward horror or thriller. Overall though, potential for adding Kingfisher to my favorite author list!
I rate the audio book ever so slightly higher than the book itself (4 instead of 3.75), mainly because I feel like the the narrator played a very large part in my enjoyment of the book. Im not sure if I would have loved the book so much without Patricia Santomasso's performance. I still can't quite place her accent, it felt somewhere between British amd Australian for me, with most of the narration leaning toward British with the odd word pronunciation leaning toward Aussie twang in my ears, especially for certain characters (I'm looking at you, Spindle), but it just added to the charm od the entire thing. Reccomended listen, for sure.
