Holy crap, what an amazing fantasy romance novel! I started it this morning and finished it in 6 hours, and I loved every minute of it. This book is classified as New Adult, Fantasy, and Romance and it fulfills all of those labels perfectly. This book made my chest hurt and my heart pound. The writing style is absolutely lush, everything is described beautifully but it's not tedious. The magic and and lore? Stunning. Tropes: slow burn, arranged marriage, enemies to lovers, and chosen one. I need the next book in the series yesterday. I truly don't understand how this author hasn't been snapped up by a big 5 publisher yet? Believe every good review you see, read this book, you will not regret it! Thank you to the author J.F. Johns for providing a review copy of this book at no cost and with no obligation. I reviewed this book voluntarily, and all opinions are my own.

This darker fantasy romance perfectly balances mystery, dragon and elf lore, action, and romance. I started it at 7:30 am and finished it at 12:45 pm on the same day, I absolutely devoured it. Both the main characters are grumpy, competent, and relatable. Tropes in the book: slow burn, fated mates, he falls first, forced proximity, and possibly enemies to lovers (debatable on a technicality I can't reveal without spoilers). The spice is open-door but relatively mild. The world is bleak, and I wish we could have had a little more lore/history in this book, but I can tell there's much more to learn from whatever sequels we get next!

This fantasy romance is an excellent mashup of fairy-tale inspiration, touches of Greek mythology, original lore, and a slow burn. Sarai is a talented musician, stubborn princess, and heartbroken woman living under the shadow of a curse. Notus is a god of disgraced origins and traitor status, returning to protect Sarai after abandoning her some years ago for reasons he won't share. Together they must face enemies from the inside and outside of their home. I love Sarai, she is such a good heroine! She is strong, feminine, fierce and hurt, angry and scared. Her family's politics and her future are the true center of the drama in this story. She is a well-rounded character whose actions can be frustrating but are completely understandable. Notus is the classic handsome, devoted, frustratingly stoic love interest that will make your toes curl. If you need a fantasy romance with plenty of original lore, touches of mythology/fairytales, yearning, and some open-door spice, give this a go!
