I doubted my pick this read because, my last Fantasy reads had been a disappointment. So, I was triple checking views before getting into it… only because of the bad reviews, I was so sure that I will be liking the read.
The book left me speechless as expected (In very much the good way). It is rare to see moral challenged/dilemmas in women, but I am sad that some can't accept it yet. The book did have minimal world-building but more character driven, which I liked more that I care to admit. Despite the world-building is minimal, the aspect of the narrative was different. Coming to the plot, the twist was calculated, and some are predictable too, but satisfying, maybe because of the narrative delivery. One last thing, I agree that some parts of the book were lengthy and maybe it could have revised once more, but it didn’t bother me much while reading, in fact it was helpful to visualize in my mind.

Book of the month picked by my beloved book club, I have to be honest, I would have never picked this read on my own, because my first impression of this book was the predictability rays emitting all over. For starters, I thought I was pretty delusional, but Liz proved me wrong, and that sort of gave me comfort, knowing we have more delusional people/characters and I am not alone in the boat. Then, I mainly wanted to talk about how this book showed the self-boundaries and pressure we put on ourselves that increase in time and get hidden behind our scars. That’s a rare thing to read (at least, it was a rare thing for me to read; I haven't read much on self-boundaries), and that certain part made me think and put a lot of things in a new lens and also reminded me to look for people who are there at one's lowest and not to forget what they meant to you at that time. Overall, this book is a cute read maybe too cute, and cringe but I am willing to overlook it, because it comes with a hidden message, and thanks again to my book club for picking this read.

Dafne534 commented on Dafne534's review of The Silent Patient
First, I am stunned to find out that this is the author's debut novel. Second, I am really grateful to my book club members, it is because of them I came to read this book. The Silent Patient broadened my mind on so many things, particularly how trauma reflects throughout a person's life, and how it shapes them(I rather not elaborate, I don’t want to give any hints/spoilers). The plot is calculatedly planned out. I read a this book at a great speed surprising myself, and I just couldn’t put it down until I know what is going to happen and, the minute I realize, what I am reading and where I am headed to, I shut my laptop and went for a walk. (I really needed that to process the events that were unfolding in the book). I am being very careful on the choice of words for the review, because I want everyone to read this thriller at least once, diving into it cluelessly and being mind-blown by it.

It is 3.80 actually, Part 4 of the book is the reason that increased my rating. I enjoyed this book and the plot was beautifully written and crafted with strong messages and awareness about traumas caused by grief. The overall plot planning was enriched with African American traditions and culture, along with the story of King Arthur. I felt the part 2 and 3 of the book maybe could have revised once again and edited in the creative process to give a strong direction to keep reading, because Part 1 definitely got me hooked but I had to push through at certain parts of the book, and thankfully the climax didn’t disappoint me…(I was worried about that). On the whole, this fantasy inspired from mythology is a needed and unique take that piqued my interest and able to appreciate the story in a new lens.
