It was unexpectedly good. I desperately needed a heist-centered book with moral dilemmas, and I came across this one in a bookstore, but I was too broke to buy it, so I ended up reading the PDF version. As I started, I could clearly see that the worldbuilding and characters were inspired by Six of Crows. The execution of that inspired world was genuinely well delivered. However, in the first half, I had some trouble geographically visualizing the world in my head. It would have been much easier if the book had a map. Still, as the plot progressed, I slowly managed to keep track of every place and character. The multiple POVs were very much needed for this story to be delivered effectively. By the second half, I was completely immersed in the world, and the plot planning felt original. The author really did justice to how inspiration can be taken and still delivered originally. And once again, I made the same mistake, I didn’t know this was a series. I didn’t check! I will be starting book 2 soon because I need to know what happens next.
