âSacrilege: Irreverence toward people, places, or things associated with God. (See this book.)â (pg 196).
This ridiculous, delightful, and smart book was everything I needed on a rainy evening. I think the author and I share the same kind of humor, as my poor husband had to sit through me reading quotes out loud.
I really enjoyed Sidleyâs mix of commentary, humor, and historical accuracy. Growing up in the Christian faith (albeit, not Catholic), there are a lot of things about religious ceremony and sacrament that donât make sense or are a little ridiculous if you think about it for more than a couple minutes. But, there is something truly special about this religion, with all its idiosyncrasies and flaws. Itâs ripe for teasing, but also full of awe and wonder; it has a rich history that is both weird and wonderful.
This book was a delight, I learned some things (make sure to read the footnotes to learn more!) and I belly-laughed. Is there anything more holy than that?

I tend to read graphic novels a lot more quickly than I do other books (as I'm sure many of us do, given the nature of the form), and for me it sometimes takes a lot of self-restraint not to consume the entire book in one sitting. I often feel guilty for reading graphic novels so quickly because I feel like I'm not savoring them enough, but I don't know how to read them more slowly other then to spend more time admiring the artwork. Does anyone else experience this? Any ways you try to make the read last longer?
