Oh jeez, I don't know if I'll be able to get through The Monologue, I cannot keep track of what this character is saying. Like, I get why there's barely any punctuation and why the narrator keeps jumping around in the same sentence but oof. I'm struggling to keep up.

Just finished The Age of Discretion and I'm not entirely sure how to feel about this book - it's not the genre I usually read and I'm not really a fan of this first character (i didn't catch her name so I'll call her The Writer). That said I do enjoy how Simone portrays the sort of dysphoria The Writer experiences as she ages, the disconnection she feels from her body as it begins to fail her. It was also interesting to see how her perspective was challenged during the story - and how she eventually deals with moving forward. Really enjoyed the relationship between The Writer and her husband too, they truly feel like a couple who's been married for decades with the way they anchor each other and drive each other forward.

Finished reading this book past midnight so maybe I'll come back to touch this up more if I can but I adored this book. Mostly, I adored Marcellus and wished we could've had more of his POV. The book starts pretty slow and I feel like the chapters could've been a little longer so that we could spend a little more time with the side characters. I get that Ethan's a side character but it's disappointing that he didn't get more time to shine too. Things only pick up once a certain character comes to Sowell Bay and that only happens like... roughly halfway through the book, which was unfortunate because I spent that much time wondering how the character was connected to the rest of the Sowell Bay cast and why they even had chapters for their POV. Also, there's a lot less detective work on Marcellus part than implied in the summary but he does come in clutch (he's a smart cookie <3). All that aside, I did enjoy the writing and Tova's POV in particular was an absolute delight to read. Great book overall!

Please someone tell me why I just finished a terribly graphic book about war and didn't shed a single tear, but reading a short chapter from an octopus's POV has me tearing up already ??? literally nothing has happened but I love him

Feels like this book has a slow start (granted I'm only 13% through) but the characters are lovely and I adore how Tova's grief is written. Absolutely in love with Marcellus' off the charts sassiness. Don't worry Marcellus, I won't tell Terry how you escape you enclosure 💛
