I read this because of a Fated Mates episode about love stories between regular people and famous people. I really enjoyed it; I listened to the whole thing in 2 days. The source of the conflict winds up being so small an event, which fits the small scale of the love story. The description of the main character's relationship with her children is wonderfully drawn; they are real characters too.

This book felt like a real-life story about how love happens and how people pair themselves up. I was intrigued by the challenge of portraying the love story without love at first sight, without immediate chemistry, and with heavy introspection and doubts. This, by the way, is a closed-door romance.

You know how some books feel cheaply composed because the conflict gets set up in the first two chapters, and the characters are drawn exclusively to think about each other until the conflict is resolved? This is the opposite. The two main characters do not seem destined for each other. There is no conflict that keeps them apart. And the characters are fleshed out not by the exposition of their own thoughts and reflections, but by what happens to them. I'm captivated so far, because this feels like real life, but in a good way.
