Hi everyone! This quest has such a fun theme!
I was wondering how you all manage to remember things you learn when reading nonfiction books. Every time I read one, no matter how interesting the topic is, I always forget basically everything once I’m done. I want to become a fun fact fiend like all of you, but I struggle with remembering things. It’s just like in college how I would study then immediately forget everything after a test was over 😭
I don’t want to have to take constant notes and make flashcards and whatnot just like studying for a class, since it feels like that takes so long and sucks the fun out of reading, but is that the only way to memorize and learn? To me, it feels like everyone is able to read a nonfiction book and just automatically memorize everything, when I can only remember two or three things 🥲
Would love to get your thoughts and tips and suggestions on retaining more info I read! Thanks everyone 🩷

I can’t believe it’s finally here! Nonfiction has always been one of my favorite genres because you can learn so much about so many topics - there are truly a never ending number of rabbit holes to fall down 😉
With this quest I tried to cast as wide a net as possible from my original list, but given the100 book cap I wanted to also leave space for future publications. If you come across any newly released and interesting works in your reading journey, feel free to drop them below. Even if I’m unable to add them to the quest, it’s still a great way to share new recommendations with your fellow readers!
Thank you all for going on this journey with me. Happy reading, I hope you learn something fascinating! 🩵

Like a sleeper agent. If a trigger phrase is said, I know I'm going to be reciting chapters from these books. These are all so amazing looking!

Hey 👋🏻 I was just wondering how some of you may differentiate between the tbr label and the interested label for your libraries! For me; I decided books I have whether it’s a library book or ebook, I put on tbr and ones I don’t have access to right now I put on interested. What do you think? :)

The author makes solid arguments for systemic changes needed to benefit fat people and everyone around them, but I can't help but thinking that the people who need to hear this message the most -- the people who insist on needing facts, data, and logic before supporting any change -- would automatically dismiss everything she says because of who she is: a fat person and a woman. If we're going to get any of these systemic changes, we're going to need a cis het white man giving these messages, and they're not going to listen to Aubrey. Maybe the 99% Invisible guy would get it, but he doesn't have an army behind him.
Also, I have to quibble with Aubrey's assertion at the start of this book that it isn't a memoir. Sure, there's no thin redemption arc, but every systemic change she pitches is framed by one of her own experiences. And they are valid experiences, I'm not seeking to undermine them! But I wonder if she'd accuse me of thin privilege if I said I've experienced many similar humiliations at 150 pounds, not 300 pounds. YES her struggles at a larger size are real and valid, but they are often also shared! And it doesn't feel like she leaves space to share those experiences. Probably, as she describes, because her thin "friends" often totally dismiss her concerns and feelings (she needs better friends!!). We're all stuck competing with each other because we're forced into this thin/fat binary, but it's not a competition as to who suffers more. Or it shouldn't be. I appreciate this book and Aubrey's research and insights, I just wish it wasn't so quick to discount everything beyond the author's experiences.
