If I was more sensitive and prone to crying, I would have been in tears during much of this book. The Reformatory was an extremely well written story that evokes an immense amount of emotion. While it was a very good book, it wasn't entirely what I came for. I was looking for more paranormal horrors and while there were haints, they weren't the true evil in this story.
At times, this was hard to listen to and so while I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the book, I would advise caution because of the themes. The rating I chose to give is based on my enjoyment of the book - for quality and the story itself, hands down 5 stars across the board.

3,75 stars. I liked the concept and the way the cases all came together cleverly. But some clues were too far fetched for me, especially the psychological interpretations for some of the paintings 🙄

3,75 rounded up to 4. I liked all the elements (the relationsships between vampires, the loss of a mortal life, the devotion between donor and vampire etc.) - but they were all quite surface level. Maybe this book would have benefited from 100 more pages, to really explore these themes?
