Fellow TC's, I think I am no longer allowed to vote for readalong books. Every book I recommend I end up hating and every book I openly vote against ends up being a favorite 😂
I was dreading reading this book. It was an intriguing premise but all I heard was how disturbing and difficult it was to get through. That and all the comparisons to 1984, a book I loathe, had me wanting to run in the opposite direction.
I honestly loved it. The descriptions were graphic but nothing felt unnecessary or shock value-y, although this is a common criticism I'm seeing from others. This book is painting a picture of complacency in which people are willing to take part in a disturbing system as long as their normalcy is not interrupted too much. A world where anything the government says is accepted as fact, without question. This book is a glaring look in the mirror for the world today and a wake up call to QUESTION WHAT WE ARE DOING.
I loved the pacing of the book as well. It starts slow and gets faster and faster as the book goes on, mimicking the loss of control Marcos experiences as his world crashes around him. While we're never quite sure what to think of him in part 1, part 2 makes it abundantly clear what kind of person he is.
I want this to be required reading but I fear that the message would go over a certain group of people's heads and they'd be on the ground praising this fictional government for finding another source of meat for these poor people.

I'm still wondering what I was thinking when starting this. But, by all means, I'm going to finish it. But yeah, I'm not used to horror stuff like this, this is absolutely crazy. Every single page is a new lesson on humans' abilities to be nasty as f*ck.

Just because I’m nosey 🙃. Where are my PB friends located? I’m from the UK and tend to notice my feed is very quiet in the mornings and was putting it down to different time zones.

Does anyone else like to listen to music while they read? And if so what do you like to listen to? Does it vary depending on what you’re reading? Or do you find it too distracting?
Personally, I’m super into music that fits the vibe of the book I’m reading. Like while I read Legends and Lattes I listened to some soft tavern ambience and now I’m reading dark gothic books and I’m listening to that type of vibe, like This Mortal Coil and Slowdive. I’d love music as well as reading so I’m curious to hear what you guys are listening to while you read! 😄

is progress tracking something we can expect to see in future?(/do we already have it and i just haven’t noticed? 😅) one thing i really like about other book apps is being able to input my progress and have a little progress bar fill up and id love that option here too

I KNOW ITS EARLY JUST LISTEN!!!! I was working on my Halloween TBR and I find that every year I know exactly what I want to read; horror. Horror and thrillers are like THE go to book for the spooky season. That got me thinking though,,, what is the Christmas season book? The only thing I can think of is those cheesy (some are good i have to admit) Christmas themed nickel paperback books. Other than the directly themed books, what books do you read for the jolly season? (Or what are you planning on reading?)

Has anyone else seen the trailer for People We Meet on Vacation? Watch the trailer here What does everyone think of it? I personally loved it, and I'm now even more excited for the movie. I really think I'm going to have to do a quick reread before the movie comes out in January (so soon!).
