Potentially unpopular opinion but usually an audiobook read by the author is so much more powerful for me, but Ocean Vuong read the whole thing like a devastating poem rather than a novel and the constant vocal supplication to be moved by his words, along with the purple prose fatigued me and pulled me way out of the novel. Loved part 1. Didn't connect with parts 2 and 3. Lovely lines and many important things said, technically well-executed, but ultimately left me a bit tired and disappointed.

James Islington's world building really popped off in this novel. This book killed me and brought me back to life craving more. I demolished it
