    Great book, dud movie.

Anyone seen the movie? It majorly recharacterizes a lot of characters in ways that were soooo disappointing to me (especially Marshall). Obviously any book that is very thought heavy is going to have a tough time translating to screen (and a lot of this book just happens in Mickey's thoughts), but I was still shocked by the thematic changes Bong Joon Ho made. I think he just had a totally different story he wanted to tell. I loved Mickey's nihilistic jokes and shenanigans and chaos. The movie was much more social commentary than I picked up in the book. Am I off base? Did I just miss the themes in the book that are present in the movie? Honestly, I just read this as a "fun" read so I wasn't necessarily reading it expecting much social commentary. The book definitely delves into a lot of the morals around the creatures Mickey's crew is sharing the planet with and his whole immortal human vibes, but the crew's social dynamics seemed largely added in by Bong Joon Ho.

Is the TV show worth it?

I'm rereading this book for the first time and remembering how much I LOVE this story and the vibes (and Emily St. John Mandel in general). I know when I finish it, I'm going to be looking for more content to stay engaged on it. Is the TV show worth it?? I am sure it has plenty of differences, but does it manage to capture the same vibes and lovely characters?

Is it bad that I kind of want this to evolve into a romance storyline à la The Gorge?

I'm new here and was wondering if there's a quick and easy way to navigate to other books of a series. So starting on the page of Book 1, how do I get to Book 2 without having to use the search bar? Feels a little complicated unless I'm overlooking something?

I have absolutely zero idea how the book will wrap up the entire story with less than half of it remaining. But I can tell why this book series is the top recommendation for people who haven’t read in awhile or just never got into any sort of fantasy (Me who hasn’t read since high school and am now 30) but good lord is it addicting.

    Finished sadly!!!!!

Such an outstanding book, wow! I loved every bit of this book, from the academic setting to the fact that you can tell something is off and immoral but you haven’t been given the full story. It all ties up well at the end and you understand everything!!!!! I loved this book. 100% recommend, if you are on the fence just pick it up and read it, please!!!!! Sorry but will never like Ruth, leave Kathy aloneeeeee.

    Thoughts from 8%- reread

So excited to come back to this one! It’s still completely insane that it was written in 2014. Previously I read a hard copy of the book but this time I’m doing audiobook to prep for a book club! Very intrigued to see how I like it because the changing timelines and POVs was tough in the book, I’m respecting it to be tough in the audio format too

I just got an ad for the most Fahrenheit 451 app ever.

Have you guys gotten ads or things on tiktok from SoBrief? From what I can tell, its an app where you can search popular books and "read" the book by reading summaries of the book (approximately 1 chapter => 1 paragraph). It doesn't seem like it has a huge following and I don't want to come here to be a hater, but in light of F451's world where books were boiled down to summaries, then sentences, then eliminated, SoBrief's ads just ended up feeling so dystopian to me.

What do you guys think of the multiple POVs?

I absolutely ADORED the multiple POVs. I felt like it gave me so much insight into the emotions of the characters. Their hopes and fears and their total awe of Vera. It definitely feels campy, but in a way that matches the story. I know the multiple POVs can be devisive but I think Sutanto does it SO WELL with this book (while still not totally giving the end away- though I do think it revealed a LOT more information than Vera was working with trying to solve the case).
