Reading this one while on my period was a mistake. While I loved Heated Rivalry for obvious reasons (and Ilya is still my favorite), I think this was the best book so far; Rachel's writing was clearly improved by the time she got to this. Watching Troy pull himself out of a deep depression and become comfortable with himself was so beautiful and the ending made me cry. (Plus I was SO HAPPY we avoided a 3rd act breakup).

I'm so excited to read TLG (and then to probably rewatch show again) and get Ilya's side of this.

I think so far I'd rank this second behind Heated Rivalry. It seems like a lot of people dislike this couple and the age gap but I really enjoyed the first 90% of this book. If it wasn't for the arbitrary 3rd act breakup, I would've rated it higher. There was definitely a more interesting way of getting these men to admit their feelings and finally get together for real.

    ”perogies”

It’s fucking pierogi, not perogies. There is an “i” not an “e” and it’s already a plural. Probably no one else cares, but it always makes me so mad. Polish not being butchered challenge level: impossible. Do better.

    Family Drama

    Rebecca Fallon

A vibrant debut and powerful meditation on family, motherhood, and the cost of holding on to your dreams, reminiscent of Ann Napolitano. It’s 1997, and snow is blanketing a New England beach. Two befuddled seven-year-olds watch as their mother’s body is tipped overboard a crumbling boat. A Viking funeral, followed by a raucous wake. A send-off fit for soap opera star Susan Bliss. Fifteen years earlier, Susan is a blazing, beautiful young woman, passionate about her art. It’s impossible not to fall in love with her, and so Alcott, a practical professor, does—hopelessly. And so begins the love story of Susan’s two-paneled life, an unconventional, jetlag-filled arrangement that takes her back and forth between her home in New England as a wife and mother to young twins, and the bright lights of soapy Los Angeles. In the present, Susan’s twins grow up in the shadow of her all-consuming absence. Sebastian, a sensitive artist, cleaves to her memory, fascinated with the artifacts of her starry past. Viola, resentful of her mother’s torn allegiances, distances herself from the memories of her. But when Viola runs into her mother’s old costar Orson Grey—now a renowned Hollywood star—she finds herself falling deeply in love with him and begins to put together the pieces of a mother she never really knew. Sharp, assured, and beautifully written, Family Drama is a story told in double-helix, with intertwined timelines that explore the different versions of ourselves we share with the world and with each other.

"A year and a half ago, Maria had completed the entrance exam for the police academy and passed with flying colors. Then she’d swiftly decided that she wanted, in her words, to actually help people. Immigrants, like her own parents, in particular. So she was now studying Human Services at a local college."

Tbh I didnt expect to like this one as much as I did. Getting to know Ryan Price and delve into his anxiety and mental health struggles felt so real. However Fabian, while I liked how sensitive and compassionate he was as a partner for Ryan, felt very one note to me. And the 3rd act breakup was SO unnecessary and felt like it was there just to hit the trope quota. I still was happily surprised with how quickly I inhaled this story. Ryan Price is such a sweetie and I'm glad he got a happy ending.

Also I absolutely SQUEALED every time Ilya showed up. Hes still my #1. Also that epilogue scene 👀😘
