This was such a cute story, I really enjoyed it for what it was. I almost wish it had been longer, but at the same time it felt like the perfect length. Plus there's a sequel so I'm definitely excited to explore more of this world with Dex and Mosscap. I listened to the audiobook but the writing was so beautiful I might pick up the physical book so I can actually read it myself one day. Highly recommend for a peaceful little retrospective you can easily read in one sitting.

After listening to the audiobook, string no longer sounds like a real word. I think if I had read this in my early twenties, I would have found the messaging very profound and would have made it my entire personality for a while. Reading this in my mid-thirties however, the themes were more obviously basic. I still enjoyed it for what it was, and I think the way the author wrapped everything up was pretty satisfying. Also, I would totally look at my string.

I’ve known of Chuck Tingle’s lore for a long time so I was really excited to dive into one of his more serious works. This book had a little bit of everything: horror, sci-fi, anti capitalism and anti AI messaging, childhood trauma but most importantly, queer joy. I feel like I never knew the next thing this book was gonna throw at me and I loved it. I read this for one of my book clubs and it was really fun to discuss all the themes with a group. I can’t wait to add more Chuck Tingle to my TBR.

This was a book club pick so I didn’t read the description before starting (very unlike me) and so the Clone reveal really took me by surprise. Parts of this book made my skin crawl – the clinical way Evelyn would talk about the clones, the cold nature of the ex-husband and how we learn just how many attempts he went through before Martine. One of the other reviews mentions how Evelyn is unlikeable but somehow you end up rooting for her which is exactly how I felt throughout reading. I did laugh out loud when the two women were sitting in the backyard with dozens of dead clone bodies in what’s (presumably) a suburb for what felt like a LONG time. Also this probably makes me a bad person but when Martine killed the Original Nathan, my first thought was that Evelyn could have killed her and that would’ve solved her whole problem. Especially because at that time, Evelyn was still thinking of her as “just a clone” so it was strange to me that the thought didn’t even occur to her. I wonder what the long term plan for their strange little family is. Is this child going to have a birth certificate? Have they brought him to a doctor? Will he go to school? Are they ever going to get Martine a ssn? Do they plan on leaving the house ever? If the child’s DNA a weird mix of clone/human how is that going to affect him growing up? A weirdly intriguing read.

I had almost as hard of a time picturing what was happening in this one as I did for the Iron Tangle. I think for the next book I’m going to try reading along with the audiobook so I don’t get as lost. That being said, these books really do keep getting better. I LOVE seeing Carl Rage Against The Machine™️ and Sticking It To The Man™️. I do feel like this one was very Carl heavy and now with Katia seemingly distancing herself from the party it makes me sad we didn’t get more of her (and Donut) in this one. I hope the ladies get more action moving forward (especially with whatever Odette is planning with Bea) 👀

Sometimes a family is a boy, his mom, 6 wolves, a witch, 3 mechanics and an ex-girlfriend and i think thats beautiful. After reading some reviews, I guess I’m the weirdo here but I loved this book. Yes the age gap was a little concerning at first but I think the author made it pretty clear that Ox did not view Joe in a romantic light until he was 17 almost 18. And nothing physical happened until they were both clear adults and in their 20s. I think a similar “real life” scenario would be catching feelings for a friends younger brother once you’re both grown up. I found the writing in this book so beautiful. The repetition of phrases/words that seems to bother others didn’t bother me at all – in fact I found it very effective. I loved following Ox and seeing him accept his worth and value as a person and as the leader of his pack. My only complaint about this book is that we didn’t get to spend any time with Ox post wolfing and happy with Joe and the others. All we got was one tiny epilogue that was ruined for me with the use of the word “spunk” (cause, gross). IDK give me a book about werewolves, witches, vampires, etc and I’ll eat that shit up every time. I can only hope we get more of Ox in the rest of the series.
