An introduction to the Fantasy genre, these books are part of the cultural zeitgeist or the 'canon' that many would recognize. Look for more niche titles in later Starter Pack volumes.

helloooo beautiful peeps Ramadan Mubarak for all the muslim girlies here btw. I actually wanted to ask and talk I guess about something I'm noticing with fantasy. I have a couple of ARCS that I asked for because they were tagged as fantasy and the premise sounded interesting. I'm reading them and while I can see glimpses of fantasy ALL of them feel more like historical fiction, which I don't hate but I am not the biggest fan. I also just feel like most fantasy doesn't feel fantastical anymore, like you could remove the "fantasy elements" and the story would work just the same. Do you feel this way? Do you have book recs with fantasy that FEELS like fantasy?

Iâve been thinking about this for a while and just occurred to me I could ask here! how aware are you of the overarching plot when you read? what elements do you focus on the most?
for me, my brain totally shuts down and I kinda take on the role of an observer. as a kid/teen, I was so good at accurately predicting the plot but now I kinda absorb everything as itâs happening so itâs almost like Iâm just as surprised by the plot as the characters are. (still thinking critically ofc but also not super tuned-in either if that makes sense?)
now that Iâve been engaging with forum posts on here this past year, Iâve noticed how some of yâall nail the plot twists early on and have such insightful takes that honestly make me a little jealous!!
anyway long story long: what do u focus the most on when u read? gotta stop before I start rambling about how cool it is to see so many perspectives on the same text and how much I wouldâve loved to have access to a community like this growing up :)

Dramatic battles, tense political intrigue, unique world building...and is that maybe some romance I'm sensing? These books are not Romantasy but focus primarily on the SFF elements. Romance is a subplot and may not appear until later in the series, but when it does, you won't be disappointed.
