Reading this so soon after reading Agnes Grey by Anne Bronte really highlights the differences in their writing. WHY is Emily's writing so hard to read compared to Anne's? I am really struggling to understand what she is trying to get across most of the time (and I am quite a good reader, not to toot my own horn lol), not to mention when Joseph is talking. I used to think it was just how they wrote at the time, but Agnes Grey was so easy to read and obviously written around the same time. So yeah idk it's just frustrating me atm

Nolan's schtick of not knowing 'human customs', like what a bathroom is, is getting very annoying and frankly unbelievable.

I just started the audiobook. All the characters are unpleasant. And the protagonist the most. He gets into someone else's house and starts criticizing everybody and gets offended when it gets told.
