An introduction to the Horror genre, these books are part of the cultural zeitgeist or the 'canon' that many would recognize. Look for more niche titles in later Starter Pack volumes.

Gloriously gross, disgusting and bleak đââď¸
Medieval setting in vaguely slavic country (Poland maybe?) full of religiously mad (or just mad) villagers and their aloof lord, who lives in splendour and decandence while his people starve.
I've had a lot of fun even if some parts literally made me feel a bit sick. Definitely not for people with weak stomach.

Pure Filth
This is simultaneously the worst book I've ever read (there is basically no plot...Guy hates his mom and wants to be normal, Guy starts killing, Guy becomes Lord of The Cows) and the most disgusting.
Truth be told, it's not even that disturbing, it's just gross. There's so much shit in this story. An inordinate amount of it. Perhaps that's why it's so shitty- ha!
I cannot recommend this book to anyone, and I only finished it out of pure spite. Somehow the least gross and shocking thing in this story was nailing a fetus to a wall.
Hated it. Would give it zero out of 5 stars.

Ugh I want to kick Nina so bad, is she mentally unstable? What's wrong with her and her spoiled daughter?!?!?!

I hesitated to rate/review this, and I absolutely will not indicate an enjoyment rating, because while funny, this book is dark and hard and sad. However, overall, I do think it is very deserving of 5 stars and so felt like I should rate it. The author is vulnerable, open, and reflective in the way that some of the very best and most powerful memoirs are.
The subject matter is extremely difficult, which I knew to expect going in, but I actually did not expect for it to hit so close to home for me, because I really never think of myself as having anything in common with celebrities. I actually probably should have DNF-ed due to that, but I struggle to DNF under the best of circumstances, and felt like I was too far in to not see it through. I do recommend that people examine the themes and trigger warnings ahead of time. That said, the progress she makes and the peace that she is able to come to by the end made the hard read very much worth it for me, rather than stopping in the middle.

This story was good. I ended up rating a 3.0 âď¸ only because as much as it was fast-paced and easy to follow, it wasnât anything that really amazed me. But overall, it is a nice read, something easy to digest and i can say i didnât get bored.
