read it in march, and the only saving grace of this book was that it was short i hated every single character, the writing, the plot - everything about this novel would not recommend

devoured it in two sittings and immediately downloaded book two. this series has everything: complex characters, an interesting plot and, of course, r.f.kuang's brilliant writing đ€

the worst book i've read so far this year it read like a bunch of buzzwords thrown together into something resembling sentences. i disagreed with the authors on pretty much everything (i mean, abolishing prisons and police? definitely not!), and i quickly got fed up with their entitlement and condescension. i mean, at one point one of them went like "we [indigenous people] never had police because our behaviour didn't need policing". so you lot never raped or murdered or stole? find it really hard to believe another thing was one of the authors preaching about how private property was bad. and yet i didn't see her invite random homeless folks into her house where she lives with her offspring. but i mean coaches don't play right? another thing that bumped the rating down was the constant pushing of spirituality onto the reader. the indigenous system of beliefs is presented as the superior one and the only way out of the societal crisis we're all in at the moment - which is both wrong and simply ineffective would gladly rate 0 if it was an option

yet another book where i guessed the plot twist halfway through and still had a wonderful time i mean, a transmasc protagonist? mexican culture? a queer romance? GET ME 10! i didn't expect to cry so much, and i definitely didn't expect to get so invested in a teenage romance story, but here we are, 300 something pages later and absolutely in love đ€ can't wait for book two!

YAY ANOTHER WITCHES BOOK! this one is a mix of macbeth, hamlet and pratchett's unique writing. i pretty much foresaw the ending halfway through the book, but i still had lots of fun reading it
