Reading audiobooks is just as valid as reading physical books or e-books. Saying otherwise is not only false but also ableist. Reading audiobooks still involves thought, care, and time. Audiobooks also provide greater access to reading. Let’s stop shaming folks for the format they choose to read in.

Hello all!
I’m procrastinating writing a section of my PhD with this post which has been on my mind for the past few days.
“Romantasy” has emerged over the past couple of years as a distinct genre. While I understand that there are certainly books which blur the line between the distinct genres of romance and fantasy (each with their own unique and clearly defined tropes and characteristics), something gives me pause.
I’ve noticed a tendency to define any and all fantasy books written by or about women with romantic elements as romantasy. However, many classic fantasy novels (including those written by men) also include romances or romantic elements. I wonder if the line being drawn between “fantasy” and “romantasy” is informed by gender rather than by structure, plot, or story elements. Although there is nothing wrong with romantasy or with reading romantasy, we know that categories traditionally read by women and written by women tend to be treated as “less than” (i.e. lower brow).
This leads me to a few questions. Does the creation of the romantasy genre make it easier for men to refuse to read literature written by or about women? That is, they can say “I just don’t like the genre of romantasy” and avoid fantasy stories by and about women. If this is true, is the category of romantasy useful enough to outweigh the harm this enables? Where should the line be drawn between fantasy and romantasy? Is there a difference between romantasy and romantic fantasy?
I’d love to hear all of your thoughts!

What are your favourite children’s books and why? I’d love to hear as much detail as you can. I’m a supply teacher and I’m always looking for recommendations to have on hand. Sometimes if I can’t get the book in person I’ll try to find a readaloud on YouTube. I’m so passionate about them and believe they’re really beneficial for teens and adults too! Thank you :)

I have really been making great use of all of the great titles that are available from my two local library systems on Libby. With that being said, I love when titles I have tagged because they are not yet available from my local library system on Libby become available.
I realize the system may be a little different depending on the library system, but for my two Library systems that are connected to Libby the app says that if you tag titles your library is anonymously alerted to patron interest in title which raises the chances of them purchasing it.
Since I love shoujo and josei manga I've been using it to tag a lot of manga titles that I would like to try before I commit to either buying them digitally or physically. In some cases if they become completely available for my local library I will just borrow the entire series as it becomes available.

I've been swamped with school yet my nose is always stuffed in a book and I'm always reading something.
It occurred to me, reading is a constant in my life and something I couldn't consider NOT doing.
Why do you read?

Ok, so you know that book series that you read and fell instantly in love; where you are so immersed with the world and their characters that they feel so real you ; where a character(s) is your book boyfriend/girlfriend/spouse; and you just generally die happy from shock every time it's brought up (or a slightly less exaggerated form of this feeling)?
Yeah, I don't have that.
sniffles then sobs
But I believe it's finally the time to find my own favourite book series! So feel free to drop recommendations or your own favourites. I really don't any preference, so it could be romance, fantasy, adventure, action/crime, e.t.c e.tc...
EDIT: omg, just a few minutes after making this post and already have so many replies. Thank you all! I have made a list of series mentioned and will try and get through it all. Don't be shy to add more: my tbr can never be full (mwahahahahaha)
This is a side note or whatever, but I'm surprised I didn't get popular booktok books as recommendations, as this is what usually floods my feed so I thought that was what everyone was reading lol.

Hey everyone so I kind of got into romance for the time heavily last month and I’ve been on a spree but it’s starting to feel like the books are just being repetitive ( partially on me because I went down the hockey romance road) and idw go into a slump. If anyone has romance recs that you feel are unique that isn’t just famous tropes being dumped please share. I really don’t mind anything as long as the characters have emotional depth and there is no cheating. Thank you 💗💗💗
