  • Thoughts on my Reading Practices?

okay so i have a one chapter rule- if i start a book i have to at least read the entirety of chapter one. that’s nothing crazy. (this only changes in very rare cases) however if i choose not to continue it after chapter one i wont mark it as DNF, i just quietly take it off my reading/TBR list and call it a day. i mentioned this to a friend and she said i should be logging them as DNF. my pov? i barely even started the book so why muck up my DNF as that’s reserved for books that really disappoint. so your thoughts on it? what are your DNF practices?

    Sci-fi recs? 🛰️🪐

Looking for sci-fi recs! Specifically ones that have something to do with space, just finished rereading the Martian and the first of the murderbot books and looking for more in that vein. 😌

Edit: thank you for all your recs! I’ve found so many books I’m so excited to read and I can’t wait until my uni classes get out for winter break and I can read all day. 👀

  • The Anti-brainrot Reading Challenge

Will you guys join the #AntiBrainRotChallenge? I saw it on Instagram earlier today, so I thought I'd share. You can check it the post HERE.

I feel like it'd be a great way to diversify my reading, while also being mindful of what I consume.

These are the main themes: Consistency, Mindful Consumption, and Critical Engagement. There are 3 rules for each theme, some of which include:

    • Rule #1: read for at least one 45 min session where you annotate what you read.
    • Rule #2: read at least one article/essay per month on any topic that interests you.
    • Rule #3: read at least one book by a BIPOC author for every book you read by a white author.
    • Rule #4: read at least one book from the following ten genres (listed in the post)
    • Rule #5: read at least one book from the following four formats (listed in the post)
    • Rule #6: read at least one book from the following nine categories (listed in the post)
    • Rule #7: create your own critical media journal
    • Rule #8: create your own personal curriculum for the year or for each semester of the year
    • Rule #9: do a buddy read or join a book club and discuss at least one book with other people These are the simplified versions of the rules, for more details, check out the post. It sounds really interesting to me, but I also feel a little hesitant cuz I'll be a little more busy next year bc of studying and such. Also, I don't really think I'll be able to do Rule #9 😭

What do you guys think? Would you be interested in something like this? I'd like to hear your thoughts, maybe we can encourage each other! 😊

EDIT: the creator of the challenge announced a beginner mode for this challenge, and it's much simpler than the regular one. You can check it out HERE. I think I might do the beginner mode instead!
