Okayyyy this book was DARK, messy, unhinged, and I ate that shit UP.

The Dark One had me questioning my morals because why am I over here rooting for these absolutely questionable men?! The vibes were immaculate, the tension was DELICIOUS, and the spice was definitely doing what it needed to do. Is everyone here emotionally stable? Absolutely not. Did I care? Also absolutely not šŸ˜‚

Not a perfect 5-star read for me, but it was ridiculously fun and exactly the kind of morally questionable chaos I was in the mood for.

  • Question of the Day!

    Good evening Bookaholics!

How has everyone's week finished? I hope it was all good!

My question for everyone today actually pertains to bad books 🫣

What was the last bad book you read? And what made you dislike it?

This entire War of Lost Hearts trilogy was incredible, but Mother of Death and Dawn was the perfect ending. ā¤ļø

One of my favorite things about Carissa Broadbent’s writing is her villains. They’re never just evil for the sake of being evil. She takes the time to weave their stories alongside the protagonists so you actually understand them. You don’t have to agree with what they’ve done, but somehow you can still empathize with them.

It really drove home the idea that almost any of us have the capacity to become the villain in someone else’s story. At the center of so much of it is hurt, grief, fear, and pain. That doesn’t excuse the harm people cause, but maybe if we spent more time trying to understand the ā€œvillainsā€ in our own lives, we’d find a little more peace in healing from what they did.

This trilogy was beautiful, heartbreaking, hopeful, and one that’ll stay on the mind for a while.
