Why do mothers always make excuses for the shitty things their husbands do so they can “keep the peace”? I don’t blame Tian at all for treating her family that way.

This is one of those books that shouldn’t be read as a traditional novel but should be approached in fragments. 4/5
That being said, i did enjoy reading this cover to cover. Like the title says, it’s 100 individual thought experiments (moral dilemmas) and then the author expounds on each one leaving room for you to explore your own thoughts. At the end of each chapter, there are four other chapters that relate to it linked for you to jump to which is super helpful.

It is impossible to predict what might happen in a world where you don’t know the rules. 3.5/5
When I set out to read this I guess maybe I was expecting more emotional depth. Or maybe I wasn’t really well informed enough through the recommendations of just how bleak this actually was.
The front half of this novel was very intriguing, I was certain that by the end there would be a sort of explanation of why the world we were placed in ended up that way. But no. It’s never really expounded on. Which is a choice, albeit a frustrating one.
I mean don’t go into this thinking you’ll be able to solve the case of the women and their circumstances. Truthfully upon reflection, maybe that’s the whole point. Instead of harping on the last few years of their lives, they just picked up and moved forward and made life work as they went along.
Lots to ponder on. Maybe at a later time.
