This is one of those books that shouldn’t be read as a traditional novel but should be approached in fragments. 4/5
That being said, i did enjoy reading this cover to cover. Like the title says, it’s 100 individual thought experiments (moral dilemmas) and then the author expounds on each one leaving room for you to explore your own thoughts. At the end of each chapter, there are four other chapters that relate to it linked for you to jump to which is super helpful.

It is impossible to predict what might happen in a world where you don’t know the rules. 3.5/5
When I set out to read this I guess maybe I was expecting more emotional depth. Or maybe I wasn’t really well informed enough through the recommendations of just how bleak this actually was.
The front half of this novel was very intriguing, I was certain that by the end there would be a sort of explanation of why the world we were placed in ended up that way. But no. It’s never really expounded on. Which is a choice, albeit a frustrating one.
I mean don’t go into this thinking you’ll be able to solve the case of the women and their circumstances. Truthfully upon reflection, maybe that’s the whole point. Instead of harping on the last few years of their lives, they just picked up and moved forward and made life work as they went along.
Lots to ponder on. Maybe at a later time.

i fear that as much as i enjoyed this book while reading it (for the most part)…i’m not sure i’ll remember it in a few days…3.75/5 rounded up
The plot is predictable…or maybe i’m just good at guessing things…and being right. The characters are personal enough for me to like them (Favorite is ZahZah by a long shot) but not enough for me to care about.
So here’s my only real issue with the book…which isn’t an issue at all…but I think we are so accustomed to fantasy books having a certain language/tone/setting that anything that goes against that becomes exhausting to read. while i like the idea of having “grills” as part of a custom, because it is something that is such a modern concept it’s hard to separate from the current world we live in and put it in a world that is supposed to be some mythical custom. but that doesn’t mean it can’t. because even if the author were to call it something else entirely…people would be like “is she talking about grills…just call them grills” so there’s no real winning or losing with that.
same with the modern language throughout the book. “dick game” and “dicked down” in a high fantasy setting just feel out of place…however…i think that’s just a by product of lack of visibility…if the default is “white” nothing else feels right. 🤷🏽♀️
I see a lot of comparisons to a certain popular book in the same genre…and be it that i have no interest in supporting that particular author so i have never read those books…i have no issue with it being a “insert title” knock off 🤷🏽♀️
For my introduction into the Fae fantasy type books…i’m glad it was one written for my people…by my people’s. 🖤

Listen i’m not much of a “praise kink” typa girlie…but the way that Mr. Rome “You are deserving of a love that embellishes your brilliance.” Martin is making me question myself right now…
