This post is sort of.. twofold!! Forgive me if this has been discussed before, but I haven't seen this pop up recently so I hope it's fine.
I'm wondering if anyone has ever picked up a book from a used book store and then been unable to find the next book in the series, or even another copy of the same book? Or, unable to find the other books by the author? If so, what book was it, what's your story about that?!
The next question is... how do you find obscure books? Thriftbooks was a bust... ebay has suuuper expensive shipping... do i just hope and send good vibes and manifest the book appearing?
So let me explain my story. I love used book stores and when we go camping/on roadtrips my family likes to stop at any we find on the way. Well I found my favourite... a mass market paperback fantasy from the 80s. It was called Songs from the Seashell Archives (banger title) and it was the first volume (if you follow me you might've seen me update a review) hehe. I love it. It's not the greatest book of all time but it was the perfect book to read in the summer. Well I wanted volume 2 and i'm like well i'm not gonna find this book anywhere, not the volumes (they combined books 1-2, etc). I ordered it on thriftbooks... just to get a š¤·š»āāļø heres your money back bc we don't have that book On ebay its being sold for like... $8 which is fine except the shipping is +$20!!! I'm kind of getting obsessed now so I checked thriftbooks again and it's listed. So friends.... should I try to order on thriftbooks again? Should i let it be and search for this book in used book stores for the rest of my life?

Vent post about something relatively inconsequential!
I am reading Harriet Tubman: Live in Concert right now and Bob the Drag Queen has used the phrase āif Iām being honestā at least 3 times in the first hour of listening. I am starting to despise this phrase, mainly because it seems to add nothing to 90% of the sentences itās used in. There are a couple other authors Iāve read who use it a lot and Iām getting annoyed just thinking about it!
What turns of phrase or words make you cringe when you read them?

The writing style took a bit for me to get used to (and therefore I was a bit lost š ) but now I like it and I think it adds some character.

Happy Summer + Pride! (and happy winter to our southern hemisphere PB community š) The Summer Readalong and Pride Special event are now live; check the Discuss tab to see the selections and badges.
We also have a very exciting new Limited Time Quest dropping this afternoon (Monday June 1st, around 4pm EST) sponsored by Flatiron Books: The Leigh Bardugo Curriculum. Each of the sponsored Quests so far have had a slightly different format, and this one is centered around Leigh Bardugo's works in anticipation of her new book coming out in September.
What are sponsored Limited Time Quests? Publishers can partner with Pagebound to sponsor a Limited Time Quest. We only run a limited number per quarter since we are conscious of overwhelming the community. Since spots are limited, we only accept sponsored Quests that we think a significant portion of the community will enjoy. While sponsored Quests are a fundamental part of keeping Pagebound running (Royalty revenue does not cover our costs) and we appreciate everyone who supports them, they are completely optional! If you do not vibe with a Limited Time Quest, you can check out the 100+ other Quests we have on PB.
Excited for a new season of badges and readalongs with everyone! Drop any comments or questions about readalongs, special events, or Quests here :)
