Oof chapter 20 turned this from a good book to a devastating great book. I was on the verge of tears the entire time, especially with Meryl Streep’s heartbreaking narration, from the story that Lara kept to herself. The way grief, regret, fortitude is written is so beautiful and saddening. Picturing Lara looking at her girls telling the story of her adolescence knowing this is also buried down with the rest of it.
