I wasn't excepting to love this book as much as I did I'm in the middle of work trying not to cry like a baby lolll, the ending was sooo sweet and the explanation of how the shop works isn't what I was expecting but it's so fun!

I really enjoyed this book! I admit there were about two parts I had to kinda skim, only because I'm super squeamish and one of these parts felt kinda dragged on, but overall I was super invested! I think my only complaint would mainly be how the book kind of assumes the worst of you specifically, like there's moments where it'll be like "YOU. The reader reading this right now, you think all puppies deserve to go to hell." (Exaggerated example obviously but y'know) and it does feel like it kinda lulls just a hint too long between some bigger plot points. I do think the idea behind it is so interesting, and watching her spiral and get further invested in the idea of becoming a mermaid is so incredibly subtle and well written. It feels both like it makes complete sense and you can totally follow the logic behind it but is also still super startling if that makes sense. Overall I really enjoyed this book!!

  • What popular book didn’t work for you?

What’s a book that’s been so hyped up, only to let you down?

For me it was The Ritual by Shantel Tessier. It was so overhyped on booktok, even on goodreads (when I still used it) i remember it having a 4 star rating. I was honestly so shocked once I finished it. That book had so many plot holes and questions unanswered, all spice basically, and even the spicy scenes were not cute (fmc was drugged for half of those scenes it felt like). This is when I learned to never trust booktok again lmao

I'm enjoying this book a lot and I'm so excited I finally found it but does anyone else ever have a hard time when books like? Assume the worst of its readers? I totally get the idea behind it but it throws me off a littleeee when it says things like "YOU ARE thinking this (awful thing)" (like for example the "I know your pity will be hard-won." and stuff) when it's totally not what your thinking at all? Not like a deal breaker or anything just a lil thought lol
