I knew it! I knew it, I knew it, I knew it! (Well, I had multiple theories but one of them was right!)

Surprisingly good story ! Surprisingly as I thought it would be lighter and shallower. But, quickly it becomes an intriguing investigation, with high stakes.

I already added the sequel and the prequel to by tbr, though I don't know, I think the book is enough. The ending promises a following, yet I feel satisfied by it, in a good way.

I was at 25%. I hardly put the book down because it's half past midnight. I thought it was a bit cringe and too teenagy at first. Now I'm HOOKED.

I think I was expecting more from this one.

Maybe more cozyness, more softness, something slower and quieter. I was like a very distant observer of the protagonists, and a fervent lover of the cat, obviously. But what I mean is that I didn't feel close of them, not scared neither sad nor happy for them. Just caring enough but not a lot. If the book was a tv show, i would have been scrolling on my phone, hoping that they wouldn't die at the end.

But I still wanted to read page after page, to know how it would end. I wanted to understand, to learn with the characters. And maybe it felt a bit underwhelming.

Thoughts from 8% : not sure I'll continue

I found the book in a bookshop and it sounded fun. Now I've started it, it sounds gimmicky. Maybe it's too soon but it doesn't feel like there is a plot. Maybe I'll get back to it later, but now it's not the mood I'm looking for :)

How does Katabasis compare to Babel?

I read Yellowface and Babel from R F Kuang, I thought yellow face was a nice easy read, but babel was not for me. The characters were bland and one dimensional, there was no character development (this was kind of my bad for creating expectations beforehand). I liked the social critique, but it was too on the nose for me, nothing left to the imagination, everything was explained in so much detail... Buuuut I bought the special edition of Katabasis because it was so beautiful! How does Katabasis compare to Babel? This time I won't go to the book with as much expectations, but I would still like to know your opinion :)
