a very interesting and well researched book about a group of women in a small village in hungary who took part in mass poisonings of (abusive) husbands, sons, neighbours etc. after the first world war.
I have never heard about this story before and was very interested to find out more about these women and their individual stories and reasons. The author Hope Reese did a good job to portray the women and how their lives changed during the first world war but also what happened after their men (often changed due to the traumatic experiences) came back home.
Why they have killed the victims and how the justice system failed them all is the most interesting part of the book and probably something I will think about for a long time.
It also has photos of the women, houses and the village in it which I thought was a nice extra to get a better view of how these people lived.

After watching the movie and absolutely loving it, I had to read the novel and was surprised to find out how much more scientific it is compared to the movie. I do enjoy Andy Weir's humour. Itâs goofy and silly and really sarcastic at times, so I had a blast, especially when Rocky and Grace meet and have their little misunderstandings.
And Rocky! This novel truly is for everyone of us who were (or are) nerds who had pet rocks as a child. This little alien stole my heart and I loved to experience their growing friendship and that Andy Weir chose to give us a wholsesome "human meets alien story" instead of another terrifying one (although I love those just as much!)

Really wanted to like this but it was unfortunately very underwhelming. The writing style is good but the plot felt bland and the supposed "queer love story" that was hinted at is non existent. There are many flashbacks about historical context or events that happened prior to the death of Anne Boleyn and the author clearly has done some research and these parts I liked as well as the focus on Anne's role as a mother and how cruel it was of Henry to not only make Elizabeth a bastard but also to make her motherless but even that part isnât fully fleshed out.
Anne Boleyn also doesnât even feel like Anne Boleyn to be honest. In multiple situations I thought to myself that the real Anne probably would have never done or said this but thats just how I felt.
The idea was good but especially compared to other fictional novels about Anne Boleyn like "Queen B" by Juno Dawson (which I loved) this didnât do it for me.
