Reading this felt like watching Monty Don tour through gardens across England (but with more context and a bit less blind exultation of the elite class lol). I felt that tension I often feel between the largeness of the world and history and biodiversity and the smallness of my own backyard garden, and enjoyed how Laing kept that same tension throughout. Especially loved the inclusion of Milton, John Clare, Derek Jarman and a few others.

  • 2025 Recap

Now that we've all had time to breath after the turn of the year, are there any books you read in 2025 that you'd love to see other people pick up in 2026?

This might be the most beautiful thing I’ve ever read. Poetry and fairytale in equal measure. Lyrical. Brutal. Mesmerizing. A story of love and the power of sisterhood. Perfect. In every way. I immediately added it to my taste.

  • books that discuss physical disability?

merry christmas, pagebound club! I was wondering if any of you have suggestions for books that discuss physical disability (bonus points if it’s about a chronic illness or autoimmune disease)? I’m happy to read about this in any form, whether that’s fiction, memoir, non-fiction, or something else! I know this is a pretty general request, but I wanted to keep it intentionally broad so as to gather more recs. thanks all :)
