I enjoyed the audiobook, but I feel like I was easily distracted and sometimes missed some things (totally on me) I may finish the series, but it’s not on the top of my to read list. if you enjoy Mistborn I think you’ll enjoy this!

I never wanted to finish this novel, I wanted to stay with Once-Was-Willem indefinitely. Even though Unsung Jill was my favorite character, Once-Was-Willem has this balance of childlike innocence and wonder with world weary wisdom that came from what he became. His story’s beginning is also heartbreaking and just made me want to give him a huge supporting hug lol.

The story itself blew me away. It’s written in a light colloquial old British English but not so much that it’s difficult to understand and serves to further immerse the reader into the world. It had the feeling of a very dark fairy tale with moments of horror, gore and awful actions countered with very sweet and touching moments. I did appreciate that the heroes were mostly all fallible physically and in their personalities. There’s nothing I can’t stand more than a hero that’s too good.

Even if the last few chapters were slightly convoluted and occurrences were a little too convenient (such is the way where fairy tales and magic are involved), Once-Was-Willem is one of my favorite books I’ve read this year without a doubt.

  • I really need to read more Black Authors!

Joining this list because I really need to read more Black authors!

Only discovered recently that I have not read many at all. Before Pagebound, I mostly just browsed libraries and though I will never speak out against libraries, which are possibly the greatest ammenity modern society offers, I don't think Irish libraries are very diverse, though I see them getting better.

Does anyone have any recs for starting off, as this list is so long? I have TBRd a few already, but are there any must read/contemp. Classic authors or books here I should know about?💕
