I’ve recently started listening to the Lord of the Rings trilogy narrated by Andy Serkis and I’m absolutely LOVING it. His character acting and narration is unmatched and it brings the story to a whole new level. I’ve heard a couple people say they couldn’t get into LOTR and called it “boring” when they tried to read it. So I wondered if maybe some books are just nicer to enjoy as a listen rather than a read? What do you guys think? And if so, what audiobooks would you recommend? I’m officially in my audiobook era 🤗🎧 💕

Do we think Tolkien was high when we wrote the chapter about Tom Bombodil?? This is some wacky stuff. I am obsessed with Andy Serkis interpreting the songs on the audiobook too, what a hero 😂

Reading this book felt like listening to an ancient story round the cozy fire. It was so great to get lost in this world. I loved Bilbo as a character, he felt so familiar in how he navigates the tension between home life and wanting adventure. It really celebrates how the everyday man can be a hero. The narrator felt like its own character too, which added to the charm. I loved it!

Overall, I liked it and thought it was well written. It was easy to read and I appreciated the fact that the story around female friendship. I felt the first third was really rich and you got to know the depths of the characters, but then as the perspectives started to shift alongside the timeline, it lost me a little bit. Was craving just a bit more character development. The backdrop against the struggles in Iran was really powerful and I appreciated that a lot.
