The comparisons are like Bridget Jones or a Sally Rooney novel, but trans, and I think that’s sort of fair? It lives in that genre of dissecting women's relationships, it is equally funny and poignant. But I would add that this book is more than that because it so deeply lives in the complicated world of being trans in ways that doesn’t patronise the reader with “intro to queerdom” bits of exposition, or stereotypes that dilute experiences to make them palatable. It’s not Bridget jones but make it queer, it’s queer, but make it Bridget jones.

For some reason, reading book 1 i thought Dr. Piper was like 95yrs old, so I was very surprised when he showed up again as a love interest

I like that the different books each have different pacing. I was worried it would get a little formulaic but each of the narrators across this series are different and it drives the story at different speeds, which makes it feel fresh and interesting.
Also, its interesting to see how the romantic power dynamic between two guys plays out versus some of the other books where you have to navigate persuing women as a powerful (both physically and within the political/social/economic spheres) man.

“A handsome man with a hurt looking to be soothed. Paladin catnip, his friend Clara would say, laughing. No, no. You're in no shape to go around fixing anybody's hurts. The world was full of misery and you had to learn eventually that it wasn't your job to fix all of it. Even when it came in attractively built packages.”
I already know that this will be my favorite book in the series.
